Songkran (Thai New Year)

In Bangkok, the Songkran Grand Celebration will be held between 10 and 15 April around the Rattanakosin Island district, sometimes called “Old Bangkok.”
The main celebrations, in the capital, focus on bathing rites of replicas of revered Buddha images originating from various provinces in the North, South, East and central regions, interspersed with traditional food and dessert-making demonstrations and cultural performances. The opening ceremony will take place, 10 April, at Phra Chetupon Wimol Manklaram or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.

Activities :
Parktake in the merit-making at Wat Mongkhon Bopit, enjoy the Songkran events; pouring some scented water to elders, enjoy the wonderful procession and splash with elephants. Experience the parade of Hamsa and Takhap flag of Raman tribe.

Songkran Festival in Chonburi
Pattaya and its neighbouring resorts in Chonburi province celebrate Songkran a week later than the rest of the country, which gives the festival’s hardcore followers a second round of fun if they are still on holiday.
Ko Sichang Songkran Festival
Date : 13-18 April 2010
Venue : Ko Sichang and Ko Khamyai, Chonburi
Activities : Participate in the Kong Khao ceremony, give alms to monks. Create a sand pagoda, enjoy local entertainment and folk play, and a must-see activity is the event of carrying a lady in which a male will ask for permission from a lady and carry her to the sea and bring her back, after which they perform a folk dance together.
After giving the alms to monks and pouring some scented water to them as well as to the Buddha image as for the good beginning of new year, participate in the Kong Khao ceremony. Pouring some scented water to elders and ask for their blessing for the auspicious life, create a sand pagoda, enjoy folk play and entertainment and cheer up in the event of carrying a lady in which male wll ask for permission from a lady and carry her the sea and bring her back.

Activities : Offering alms to monks, pour some Thai scented water on a Buddha image, enjoy folk plays and various forms of entertainment, as well as have refreshing fun splashing water on each other along the beach.
